Good Times on the Goodtime!

No, not this.

This:

Here we are on the bus at Stone Gardens getting ready to go on our annual Goodtime III cruise on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie.

Here are some photos from the day.

Super volunteer, Arlyne Rosen. Arlyne has been our outing volunteer longer than I've been at Stone Gardens (which was nine years in June).

Here's a shot of the Lake Erie salt mines at work. Yes, there are salt mines beneath Lake Erie. No, I don't know why there are salt mines beneath a body of fresh water.

Summer Round-Up, Part 1

Know what this is?

It's a picture of a beautiful blue, cloudless sky from our Rose Garden on "Summer Camp Day" last week.
Summer Camp Day featured camp-style games, arts and crafts, a BBQ dinner and a campfire.

Here are some photos:

Once again, more pictures of me with fire.

 The perfect marshmallow.

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Crackerjacks...and a Big Purple Mascot

Today was our all-campus outing to the Indians game with Menorah Park board members.

Here we are getting ready to go into the stadium.

Here we are in the stadium.

And this was our view of the game.

My friend Slider came to visit us. Slider is the Indians mascot and I do know the person inside of the costume. The person's identity is never divulged, but I don't think it's too much to say tat there is a person inside of the costume, right?

And here is my favorite picture of the afternoon. I think it may need a caption.

After the game, as we were getting on the bus, I met John Adams. If you are a true Cleveland Indians fan, you'll know who John Adams is.
By the way, the Indians won 4-2.

Oh, and this is a shot of my cell phone contact list, the S section. I actually do know slider. I call him every time we go to a game and he comes over and plays for a while. Slider is a good guy...or...whatever it is.

Way Too Many Pictures of Noah and Fire

So, it's our first campfire of the season. And I love campfires. I learned how to build a "one-match-fire" at Camp Wise, the Cleveland JCC camp located near Burton, Ohio. I learned song-leading there, too. I loved Camp Wise. Campfires take me back to those "good old days."

Above, you can see I've gathered my tinder, kindling, and fuel. I learned that at camp. When I first came to Stone Gardens, they had been lighting their campfires with lighter fluid. I have since put a stop to that.

Below, you can see the people beginning to gather for the big event. (My one-match-fire is the big event, just in case you weren't sure.)

Here I am explaining my Camp Wise training and how I will build the one-match-fire. I do this at every campfire.

Here I am putting my one match to the tinder. I have built an A-frame out of two of the pieces of fuel.

Te tinder has caught. Now, I have to feed it slowly and carefully.

I might have been meditating in this photo - becoming one with the fire, maybe. Not literally. That would hurt.

There was a momentary, but welcome, interruption of a marshmallow delivery. When we opened our marshmallows earlier, every bag had turned to little rocks. Our supplier was kind enough to make a personal, emergency marshmallow delivery, braving the wilds and navigating right to our campsite.

I officially dub the photo below the one that's one too many pictures of me and fire.

Now, all the residents, staff, guests and I get to enjoy the rest of the program which included storytelling, singing songs, and roasting marshmallows.

We have a one campfire planned for every month during the warm weather. Watch your schedules for them and come and join us!
